First Day of Summer Vacation

Friday was the last day of work for Pamela and I.  What a relief to have the 2015 - 2016 school year finally at an end.  This school year has truly been the most difficult of our careers.  With things finally calming down and us being settled more or less in Gun Barrel we are certainly looking forward to having a more relaxing summer.  While we can't afford a lot of travel or things like that we still want to make this summer a fun time for our boys.

On that note I wanted to get things started off right on Saturday.  Friday night was kind of rough with Xander refusing to go to bed.  Here is the tower that he felt he needed to build at four in the morning.  With such a late night it is no surprise that my excursion with the boys on Saturday morning got off to a late start.

In fact in the original plan I was only going to take Curtis with me.  I wanted to do something nice for the family before leaving on my errand so I started cooking breakfast.  Pamela is always afraid of what will happen while I am in the kitchen so she stepped in to lend a hand.  Curtis ate pancakes and scrambled eggs.  He loves breakfast.

Once Xander woke up I loaded up both boys in the van and we ran out to Kaufman to do our errand.  Then I did a GPS search for a park so that we could play together for a bit while the weather was good.  Unfortunately the GPS took us to a trailer park, not what I had in mind.  I then did a search for another park but the GPS led me around in circles and demanded that I make turns on roads that did not exist.  Frustrated I drove the boys back to Mabank and made one last attempt to do something fun with them.  Of course Curtis fell asleep, but Xander LOVED it!

Mabank Depot Toy Train Museum and Gift Shop is a great place to take a little boy in love with anything with wheels.  Xander and Curtis both adore anything that goes whether its cars, planes, trucks, trains, or other things.  Curtis perked up after a bit and started watching the trains.  The museum is run by a man who is pretty good with kids.  He started turning on various trains for Xander to watch.  Xander had been unhappy with me when I first came in the museum so I introduced the boys as "Grumpy and Sleepy."  The man joked that I must have left the other five dwarves at home.

After visiting the museum we rushed home to pick up Mommy and go to the movies to see Angry Birds.  We definitely imagined that very differently.  Neither of the boys liked the movie and we ended up having to leave the theater early.  The movie starts out with humor that Xander doesn't like, he finds danger and pain to be scary.  Curtis had just woke up from a nap and was not in the mood to sit still in a movie theater.  So much for our family movie, but at least with the rain check we have already paid for Finding Dory.

After the movie we rearranged some furniture in the boys room to get ready to do some painting.  Jane and Pamela painted while I supervised the boys.  They ate some hot dogs together and played with toys but they mainly wanted to check out what Mommy and Grandma were up to.  Keeping them away from the room proved harder than anyone thought it would be, we ended pulling the love seat into the entrance to block it off.

After hard work Jane and Pamela called it a night and the boys were able to come back into their room.  Mommy was feeling a little silly as you can see.

After some playtime we went to Dairy Queen where Curtis fell asleep.  It was a fun day.
