Mom's Visit Part II

Friday was another early start to the day, though not quite as early as Thursday was.  I was the first to wake up, then my Mom, and then Curtis.  I felt like Pamela was going to stay asleep for awhile since I set the kitten on her.  The kitten pounced, meowed, and crawled all over Pamela without any reaction.  Mom and I started to get ready to take Curtis to the park and at the last possible moment Xander awoke.

While we were playing Curtis decided to take off and go across the street.  Normally I would have run off after him, but I was stuck in playground equipment and my Mom volunteered to go get him.  As soon as Curtis saw that he was being followed, he decided it was a game and took off running, that stinker!

We ended up exploring the area where Curtis was heading and found out where the swings are hidden.  Xander of course was very happy with that since the swings are his favorite.  After a bit on the swings my Mom suggested that we head back to the van since it was getting very hot.  We got into the van and headed to McDonalds to pick up breakfast for the family.

Curtis is such a cute little man but he was determined to demonstrate to his Grandma that he is a big handful.  I ate breakfast and kept checking on Xander who was up in the playground singing his favorite song while Mom was struggling to keep Curtis fed, happy, and away from Xander’s milk.  “McDonalds is not my happy place,” my Mother declared.  We shared a good laugh about it once we were home and Pamela had her breakfast.

Friday is the day of the local play group.  Xander and Curtis had played on two different playgrounds that morning and had eaten a good breakfast.  They were content and happy at home.  While I still wanted to go for the social aspect of it, the boys were happy where they were.  From what I heard though about the big number of kids at this week’s play it sounds like it would have been a little overwhelming for the boys.

Curtis took a nap and my Mom and I went to Lowes to pick up some screws.  Pamela saw a really great idea for toy storage on facebook and we decided to give it a try.  Since we don’t have the space that we had in Memphis, it has been hard for the boys to have a lot of access to toys.  This was the first time in months that they were able to see and handle this many toys at once.  It was like Christmas.

Saturday the boys woke up and reverted to their old morning routine from Memphis, they immediately started playing!  I was up and the weather was great for another outing to the park, but they were so happy where they were that I decided to let them be.  It turned out to be a very wise choice.

My Mom came out of her room and spoke to me and I ended up driving her to the ER.  The ER here in Gun Barrel is small but efficient.  They saw her quickly, checked the situation, gave her the all clear, and allowed her to go for free with no charge to her or her insurance since it was such a minor thing.  Stuff like this is why I love Texas.  People are just decent to one another!

I had signed the boys up for Learn and Grow at Lowes.  When my Mom and I returned home we had about a half an hour till it was going to start.  Only hiccup in our plan was that I had forgotten to print and sign the waiver form!  Luckily the public library opened early and we were able to get the form from there.

I held onto Curtis while Pamela and my Mom helped Xander assemble his Iron Man project.  Xander ended up using the Iron Man project as a night light when he eventually went to sleep, the chest lights up.  We ended up taking Curtis’ Iron Man project home to complete at another time.

Xander was excited to play in the water.  After Lowes we blew up the small pool again and filled it up.  The boys had a blast spilling the water out all over the porch.

Mom and Pamela went grocery shopping and I prepared a large lunch for the boys.  Curtis ate slowly while Xander would play a little, eat a little, play a little.  Both boys fell asleep at about 4 PM which is about when Pamela and Mom returned.  Since the boys slept all evening it was yet another late night at the Maynard house right be

Mom's Visit Part I

On Tuesday I was excited to take the whole family to see a magician.  We got up and got the boys ready in time, arrived at the Library for the show and... the boys were not impressed.  The magician was really good but he did not keep my boys' attention, his show was more geared toward older children.  So the boys ended up in the play area where Daddy was able to read some books to them and they took advantage of the many toys.

After our visit to the Library at Cedar Creek we went out for ice cream and took the boys on a short drive with my Mom.  We had a cartoon marathon back at the house for the boys and for my Mom.  She had not seen several of their favorites including Good Dinosaur, Penquins of Madagascar, or Zootopia.

Wednesday was a fun day for Mom and I.  It started out with a good breakfast.  Curtis decided to only eat the center of his waffle.

We took the boys out and about around Mabank.  Originally we planned on taking the boys to a library activity but we got a very late start to our day.  We dropped off library books and then we checked out the arts and crafts district.  It was a lot of fun to check out the different little shops and meet some nice local artists.

We finished up in time to be home by our 1:00 deadline.  The sister missionaries came over and gave us a brief lesson.  The kitten and the boys played while they gave their presentation.

After the sisters left Pamela and my Mom decided to do a painting project but first my Mom helped me get the pool ready for the boys.  The boys had a ton of fun out in the sun.  It was really nice that we found a way to do separate things but still be together as a family.  While we were inside Xander requested Zootopia by saying, "Judy Hopps."  We probably watched that movie four times that day.  Luckily we got the boys to bed early but they woke up EARLY in the morning, at least everyone got a little bit of sleep.

The boys got up the family bright and early.  I made breakfast at around 5 AM.  Since both boys were up so early we were able to spend sunrise at a park.  Pamela was getting ready for her day and my Mom woke up and started getting ready while we were gone.  It was so nice to play outside in good weather.

The boys literally ran to the playground.  It had been over a week since our last visit to an outdoor playground.  They were so happy!  They ran, climbed, slid, turned wheels, spun the rocket thingy, and more.  I chased them around a bit tickling them.  Xander started to fade a bit and started to lay down in places, but Curtis stayed hyperactive the whole time.

I took the boys home and then we went out again.  Curtis fell asleep pretty quickly in the car and stayed asleep for over two hours.  Xander also fell asleep in the car but woke up as soon as Mommy was out of the car.  He demanded explanations.  I sat in the car with him and told him that Mommy would be back soon.  We picked up some supplies for a project in the boys room.  Then it was off to lunch at the Jalapeno Tree.

The Grandma Powered Batmoblie is ready for action with both Superman and Batman looking for justice, or maybe just another nap...

After lunch we took the boys to the movie that Xander has been requesting for days, Finding Dory.  Unfortunately Xander was so tired that he slept through several parts of it.  Thankfully he saw most of the movie.

We put the boys in matching Nemo shirts for the movie event!  After spending most of the day sitting in a car, a restaurant, and a theater they were excited to have some playtime!

Amazingly enough both boys crashed before 10:00.  Curtis was the first to fall asleep.  This picture was taken just a few moments after I had been playing with him and giving him snacks.  His hand is covering a small uneaten snack.  He was out for most of the night.
