Dolly the Hero and Comet the Wet

Curtis followed Jane outside one day and started playing in the yard.  Jane did not notice anything unusual until Dolly started barking and growling.  Dolly ran toward Curtis and a snake retreated out of the yard.  Go Dolly!

Comet has had a lot of skin irritation lately so we decided it was bath time, he was less than thrilled, but it seems to have really helped.

This Sunday

Xander and Curtis dressed up for church early Sunday morning.  Our family had a good second week in the ward.  Pamela was asked to help out with the music in Primary and I accidentally walked into the Gospel Principals Class.  Curtis has a small nursery class that he enjoys and Xander is still adjusting to his new Sunbeams group.

After church I let the boys play indoors for awhile.  Then I changed them and took them into our backyard which is now fire ant free!  There was still some mud from all the storms we were having though.  For the most part the boys left the mud alone, toward the end of our time outside however they were pretty filthy.

The cat wanted out too.  Eventually we did let him out to play for a little while.

Xander surprised us by getting very involved in a movie we rented, San Andres.  He loves boats, planes, helicopters, big trucks, and cars.  All of those are in the movie, so I guess it makes sense.  He was glued to the television and kept yelling instructions to people to "Watch out!"

Fifth Anniversary, April 23, 2016

On Saturday my darling Pamela and I celebrated our fifth year together as husband and wife.  We have had a lot of ups and downs together over the last few years.  Through the good times and the bad times we have stuck together and grown.  Together we have two beautiful boys who are the pride and joy of our lives.  It has been a wonderful experience.

Pamela spent a lot of this year on her own.  She moved to Texas before the rest of the family and had to be without the boys and I.  This was very hard on the whole family, but it was necessary.  This anniversary we focused on being together as a family.

After Pamela and Jane returned from pampering themselves we started our day by going to the park to visit the lake.  I had gotten the boys ready for the day and we were able to leave almost as soon as Pamela and Jane returned.

After visiting the lake we went to a flea market and then to a community event.  The boys really liked their new toys and we liked the cost of the new toys.  Xander also had a delightful time playing with other children in the community, though I had to kick him out of the sandbox for throwing sand at kids.

Curtis had a great time at the Ole' West Bean and Burger Company.  Pamela and Jane had left the table to go to the salad bar and apparently something was really funny about that because he started laughing hysterically.

Curtis carefully studies his new treasure.

Pamela and I had talked about going out but never came up with a firm plan.  Ultimately after so much family fun Pamela was tired and just wanted a quiet evening at home.

Wildlife of Gun Barrel

One nice thing about being out of the city is that every once in awhile you get to bump into a wild animal.  It is really a neat thing to be able to watch different animals.  Here in Gun Barrel we have a pair of birds that have nested on the house, a turtle who briefly lived in our front yard, and a fox that lives somewhere in the complex.

The fox crossed my path as I was walking Dolly.  The poor thing looked at Dolly's size and just about jumped out of its skin.  It ran off pretty quickly.  Dolly struggled to run after it but I wouldn't let her.  Dolly probably thought it was another dog that she could play with.

The fox probably answers the question about where all the rabbits went.  Most mornings Pamela and I would see about five to six bunnies on our drive through the neighborhood.  Between the fox and kids playing with BB guns however I have not seen a bunny in awhile.

Last night Dolly frightened a wild animal that I could have gone without meeting.  Curtis was sitting on my shoulders, Dolly was tugging at the leash as we walked for a bit.  I saw movement and glanced over to see a skunk scurry into a ditch for safety.  It pointed itself directly at the three of us and was ready to fire.  Dolly wanted to run and play with the skunk so badly!  I struggled to pull the dog away while keeping Curtis safe.  Skunk spray can go pretty high, had I not been able to keep Dolly away from the animal, all three of us would have probably come home smelly.  Luckily I pulled her away from the skunk and kept all of us away from the critter.

Apparently we aren't the only family that thinks our house is a great find.  These two moved in shortly after we did.   I was going to destroy the nest before they would have a chance to lay eggs but Pamela asked me to leave it be.  They have left us alone and we have left them alone, they live by our front door and eat insects.  I just hope nothing changes when the baby birds arrive.

Oh the adventures and almost misadventures of living in the country!  We've learned that deer are harder to see here.  We are used to white tailed deer, but here they have black tails.  I almost hit one the other week, we were blessed that the car missed it.

Animals certainly make things more interesting!

Outside At Last

Sunday and Monday it rained, today it is raining but Tuesday there was no rain.  I took the boys to the local elementary school to play and they had a blast.  Surprisingly the playground was not even wet.  Boys had a great time.

These next two pictures were both taken in motion as we slid down the slides.  Boys really had a great time!

Curtis really liked this slide because he could climb up it all by himself.

Xander's favorite playground toy is still the swings.  He really likes going up high.

Hello from the other side.

Before leaving the boys picked some flowers.  I thought it would be nice to give them to Pamela when we got home, but the flowers did not make it all the way.  They were thrown overboard when the boys got bored with them.

I am very grateful that we had nice weather to take the boys out to play yesterday.  It was supposed to rain all day but it did not rain at all.  The boys had a blast!
