This morning reminded me that sometimes things really do
happen for a reason. I had planned on
getting an early start, taking the boys to a playground before the heat could
get too bad, and then taking them to a show in Seven Points with a Mad
Scientist. Since I stayed up past 3 AM
to make sure that Curtis went to sleep I slept in pretty late. Then I couldn’t find things and other things
started going wrong.
It got so late that I had to disregard my ideas about going
to the playground and started to just focus on getting the boys to the
show. Pamela came into the room and talked with me for awhile and it was really nice after the crazy morning. I was about to leave with plenty
of time to spare when some church members came to our door. They asked for my help doing a blessing. Had my plan gone smoothly I would not have
been home when they came by to see me.
I left with them to go to a widow’s home. Pamela and Jane took the boys to see the Mad
Scientist and as it turns out they weren’t all that impressed. The widow explained that she would soon have
a surgery. The problem was discovered
because of a completely unrelated medical issue that had sent her to the
ER. I was impressed with how she
described her ER visit as a blessing.
Sometimes what we think of as a hard day is really just blessings and
tender mercies from the Lord that we haven’t recognized yet.
After the blessing the couple dropped me off at McDonalds
where Pamela and Jane had taken the boys.
The boys had a blast and showed that they clearly do not have a fear of
clowns.
I spent some time with the boys and the kitten while Pamela
and Jane were out and about doing errands.
Xander is still learning how to get along with the kitten. Today he did not do anything to harm the cat
but he was frightening her quite a bit. I
worked with him on being gentle and soothing with the kitten. I am not sure how much it really sunk in or
not.
Pamela brought back some cat nip toys. Comet transformed from lazy cat to a little kitty in seconds. It was very amusing.
Xander worked really hard on building this tower. He was getting frustrated but he kept at it. Eventually he moved its location from under
the window to being on the window sill.
I was so proud that he kept at it and did not give up. Persistence is such a great quality that I
was glad he displayed.
As I was getting the boys ready for bed the tower fell. Xander was so upset that nothing else could be done until he fixed his tower. I read one of the library books that the boys really enjoy and a story from the Book of Mormon while Xander finished it up. Pamela and Jane praised Xander as a little architect.
The boys finally fell asleep on a late night drive. I sang primary songs to them and lulled them into dreamland. I am so blessed to have such a beautiful family. Today was a day that I was reminded that God's plan doesn't always match my own and that's okay. His plan works out for the best, always does.
Since I take and share so many pictures I want to take a moment and look at my favorites.
Curtis enjoys a music toy. Xander coming down the tunnel was quite dramatic.
This one was a good shot of the kitten. Xander's hard work on the Tsum Tsum tower makes me very happy. His persistence and hard work will pay off for him in school, work, and life.
