It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got that Swing

After church I took the boys to Kiwanis City Park in Athens, TX.  It was a really nice place to visit, several families were there with us.  I was the only person wearing a tie, but that was okay.

Xander's favorite playground toy is still the swing.  The first time we ever put him in a swing was actually outside of a funeral.  His smile and laughter brightened up the day beautifully.  Since then he has wanted to get on the swings just about every time we go to a playground.  When he was very little I would sit him in my lap as I swung my feet.  Normally he uses the big kid swings but they were pretty muddy on this day at the park.

Curtis and Xander don't really work on the same page a lot of the time.  One wants to go one way and the other wants the opposite.  Watching both of them on my own can be an adventure.  I'm often pushing Xander on the swing and watching as Curtis runs off somewhere or climbs on something.  I always have to be ready to leave Xander swinging to go running to get Curtis.  A few times Curtis tried to leave this playground area to go somewhere else.

Putting them both in the swings is an easy solution to keeping track of them.  It is also a nice workout for Daddy as I push them both at the same time.

In the area of the park where we played there were two different play sets.  One meant for smaller children like my sons and one meant for older children.  Of course my boys climbed on and played with both.

Curtis goes down the big slide solo!  It wasn't that long ago that he would have been too frightened to try something like this.  He is getting more daring and more willing to try things.

Xander pushing the swing is his way of asking me to put him back into the swing and push him some more.

In the distance you can see the rocket slide in the big kids area of the park.  The climb up was vertical so Curtis couldn't do it and Xander was frightened of it.  I cheated, I picked Xander up and put him on the sliding part so that he could still go down the slide.

I was very proud of Xander when I place him on this spinning toy.  At first he wasn't too sure about it but he was brave and gave it a try.  He ended up really liking it and saying, "Make it go faster!"

Xander gets in some last second climbing before Daddy decided it was time to go home.  We played at the park for about an hour.
