Derrick Days in Corsicana

Derrick Days is a local holiday in Corsicana, Texas.  It celebrates the history of the town where Pamela and I work as teachers.  The name comes from the fact that Corsicana was an oil town and people obtain oil from derricks.  Pamela needed to go to the celebration to lead her choir.  Jane wanted to go to get out of the house for a bit, and I wanted to go because several students had asked me if I would be there.

One of the first things I did that morning was get Curtis ready.  For awhile it looked like Xander would sleep in late and someone would have to stay behind with him.  In just the nick of time Xander woke up and we were able to get him ready for adventure!

Xander got a little bored so he and I wandered off on our own and found a carriage ride.  He was very excited to see the horses.  And a little impaitent for his ride to start as the next pictures illustrate.

Xander watched the horses for most of the ride.  After our ride he went over to the horses and pet them to say "thank you."

There were many performances going on in the street.  The Christian rock group below performed, Xander seemed interested in them so we came closer.  It turned out he just wanted to borrow the instruments that they weren't using.  So, we left from there.  A tap group performed to the Riverdance music and an entertaining man led a flea circus.

After all the excitement and watching Pamela's choir perform, Curtis was tuckered out.  We decided to go see Zootopia.  It was a fun film that Xander enjoyed and that Curtis also really liked, once he woke up.  After the movie we briefly visited the arcade.  Then it was Xander who fell asleep on the way home.

After such a busy morning sitting at home felt a little boring so I took the boys to the park!

Love that smile!

Love that smile too!

A fun day from beginning to end.  Derrick Days was pretty great!
