Bird Watching Saves Lives, Apparently
These Cedar Waxwings loved our tree during Spring Break, going outside and photographing them became quite the hobby of mine. They have since migrated north. Pamela has always accused me of being bird crazy, well, this year I just decided to roll with it.
One day while I was still on Spring Break I took Sophie out for a walk and I was trying to get some good photos of an interesting looking bird that was perched on a wire. While I was zooming in I heard a child crying. I was very confused about what I was hearing so I turned to look and I saw a young boy running barefoot through the street with big tears.
The poor kid had been left home alone while his mother was taking his siblings to school. He had left home and was searching for his family. I took him home and felt very awkward about what I needed to do, did I need to call the police, just stay with the child, or find a neighbor who could look after him? Luckily his mom returned. She was very embarrassed when I described what had happened.
If I had not been standing there taking pictures of a bird who knows what could have happened to that child? He may have gotten lost or perhaps he would have found someone else who would have been less kind. Or, since he was running in the street, it is very possible that he could have become involved in an accident.
God works in mysterious ways. Sometimes He places us at the most random moments to help other people and just maybe save a life by bird watching.
